Setups & sound Adjustments

As a musician or a music student your instrument is a part of you. You spend great times together but occasionally you sense that there is something missing and you cannot figure out what it is. Instruments need a yearly check and through these checks you will find out what are their weak points, things that should get improved. Adjustments can take some time but it is definitely worth it.

An Unfortunate Incident

You bump your instrument against an object and a corner-piece breaks off, one of the most vulnerable spots of Violins, Violas and Cellos. It looks bad and it weakens your instrument. The longer it stays like that the bigger the damage. The best time to fix your instrument is at the beginning when the naked wood is still clean and broken surfaces are not degraded. You also want to prevent losing the original corner-piece that broke off in the first place. The best thing you can do is to seal the broken off pieces in a airtight bag where no dust can get in and bring it to my workshop. What if you have a corner-piece that was broken off years ago that is dirty, dusty, and greasy? Not to worry as I also have experience with these so called "worst-case scenarios". These situations do take considerable amount of time in order to clean the wood, flatten the surface, and find the perfect matching piece of wood so that the retouching work covers the damage. In any case, irrespective of the state of your instrument, you will receive it back with a fixed corner!

A violin after an accident

You are on your way to your music lesson or a rehearsal, it is busy on the roads and then it happens, another car bumps into yours. Thankfully you are fine. However, your violin is not. You open the case of your instrument and your heart breaks. Not to worry, it will be fine. Important is to bring the instrument in the case to me or another violin maker as soon as possible. The longer you wait the more the chance of losing little pieces or let surfaces get dirty. In case pieces got lost, new pieces can definitely be added, but best is to always have the originals. Those works take time and patience for me and the musician. To get as an end result the original sound back of your partner, but it is always doable.

What I Can Do For You

The intense practice and playing of your instrument can wear off the sound quality but also the aesthetic part. Because of that and of the maintenance you should visit me once a year. It might be just the change of the strings, but can also be the glueing of an opening, for example the top from the rips. Those little fixes can have an impact on the sound of your instrument as well as getting a new bridge or plane the fingerboard. You as the musician will get the best end result by checking together with me the change in the sound until we reach the desired outcome. It will be an exciting and wonderful experience once we reach that goal!
